The Sentiero degli Dei ("Path of the Gods") is one of the most beautiful and famous hiking trails on the Mediterranean coast. It captivates with breathtaking views of the horizon along the famous coastline south of Sorrento and runs between Bomerano and Nocelle, a small village high above the Amalfi Coast. This indescribable route offers vistas of the deep blue sea, into which the Lattari Mountains disappear, and the nearby island of Capri. The name of this enchanting path comes from Greek mythology and recalls the encounter between Odysseus and the Sirens. The Sirens' home was said to be the small island group of Li Galli west of Positano. According to legend, Odysseus had his companions' ears plugged with wax so they could not hear the Sirens' enchanting song. He himself had himself tied to the ship's mast. The gods of Olympus flew down to Earth to rescue their favorite from a shipwreck. However, they landed much too far east. In their haste, they trampled across the previously untouched, gently rolling coastline, leaving their mark, which is visible today in the cliffs and breathtaking landscape of the Amalfi Coast. Beyond the legends, numerous historical accounts attest to the fact that many scholars (Goethe, Lenormant, Mendelssohn, Wagner, and many more) knew the Path of the Gods and praised its beautiful scenery.
